DCG Activities

DCG undertakes activities that contribute to fulfilling the overall and more specific objectives of DCG outlined in the DCG strategy for 2007-2011. Here are the ongoing DCG projects by country (this information will be updated for each year):

    DCG Eritrea
    DCG Ethiopia
    DCG Mali
    DCG Sudan

DCG’s activities include applied studies, workshop and seminars, advocacy and networking activities. Activities are developed based on concrete needs expressed by members or partners of DCG. The activities aim at discussing and/or probably solving concrete problems, and recommending concrete actions to be taken by a specified target group. Target groups vary according to the type of activity conducted; from local farmers, project staff, to policy makers.

Proposals for activities are forwarded from the different member organisations of DCG to the national DCG boards. The national boards assess the proposals and forward a joint list of proposed activities to the DCG secretariat in Norway by August 1st every year. DCG Norway will then prepare a joint, prioritised list of activities that will be included in the application to Norad for the coming year. The prioritised list is based on the following set of criteria:

Criteria for Assessment of Proposals:

  • Synergy effect: a) The topic in question should be relevant and advantageous to more than one organisation, and should hence not be too project specific. b) Enhanced contact between research institutions, project implementers, projects’ target groups and policy makers is encouraged.
  • Capacity Building: The problem explored should be related to food security and management of natural resources in the drylands of Africa, and should bring new and appropriate knowledge to the target groups that are specified for each and every activity.
  • Relevance and applicability: The focus should be on the relevance, applicability and appropriateness of the activity to the target groups, be it project staff, policy makers or others.
