Annual crops in the Sahel
 Jens Aune (Noragric) | 26.01.2007

The principal annual crops in the Sahel are pearl millet and sorghum, often cultivated in association with cowpea. Groundnut is an important cash crop. Sesame and hibiscus are also cash crops which are being introduced in the Sahel. Some varieties of rice are also cultivated through irrigation thanks to dams and major rivers such as the Niger.
