Participants at the 8th Conference of the Parties (COP8) for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) decided to convene an extraordinary COP session at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York on November 26th. This session is organized in order to reach an agreement between Parties to the UNCCD on the budget for the Convention for 2008-2009. No other decisions agreed on at COP8 will be re-opened for discussion.

NGOs accredited to the Convention are invited to participate at the session as observers.
