This workshop fits in with the activities and objectives of DCG and comes in the aftermath of a study conducted in 2001 and validated in the course of a workshop held in Bamako in 2001. The workshop’s overall goal is to build the capacities of the workers of DCG member NGOs and partners and communal actors.
More specifically, the participants were expected, at the conclusion of the training:
- to understand the phenomenon of desertification : manifestations, causes and effects,
- understand actions undertaken to combat desertification: CCD, PNAE, PAR, PAL, PCAE,
- control the stages of development of Communal Environmental Action Plans CEAP,
- understand the necessity and the forms of civil society participation in the process of combating desertification.
Sponsored in Gossi in Gourma Rharous district, the workshop gathered nearly fifty participants representing communes in Gourma Rharous district (5 communes and the district council), the administration, DCG member NGOs (OADS, CARE, AMADE, GRAIP), NGOs intervening in Gourma Rharous district, and representatives of government technical services.
