Ecofarm trip to Sudan

Dr. Jens Aune from NORAGRIC travelled to Sudan in October to introduce the Ecofarm approach to members of DCG Sudan and establish contacts with researchers and NGOs in Sudan. During this trip, Dr. Aune visited a few agricultural projects including the Um Jawaseer project run by ADRA Sudan, a member of DCG Sudan. These field visits enabled him to witness the various challenges faced by agriculture in Sudan especially with regard to irrigation. A workshop was also run on the Ecofarm approach which was attended by 40 participants from research and development institutions in Sudan. The Ecofarm concept was presented and it was agreed to select two sites in rainfed agricultural areas and one in an irrigated agriculture area to introduce the Ecofarm approach. A committee was formed to identify sites and select partner organizations. The Ecofarm approach is already being implemented in Mali through the involvement of two member organizations of DCG Mali (see report).
