The AEAS was established in August 1994 as an independent and apolitical professional society drawing its ordinary members from among professionals in the field of agricultural sciences residing within and outside of Eritrea.
The agreed rationale of the new MoU is to improve food security of vulnerable households and the livelihoods of rural communities, and on the sustainable management of the natural resource base while strengthening agricultural production. The agreed objectives are ultimately to:
1. Build on synergies between the AEAS and DCG Eritrea with a view to providing a strengthened common ground and a basis with which to have an increased impact on the improvement of rural livelihoods in Eritrea;
2. Support efforts towards improving the capacity of its member and partner organisations and to improve the quality of development activities that are carried out by them;
3. Support efforts towards combating desertification, with special reference made towards supporting Eritrea's efforts in meeting its objectives outlined in the UNCCD National Action Plan;
4. Support awareness raising on activities conducted by and through the AEAS and DCG Eritrea.
DCG Eritrea would like to take this opportunity to thank the NCEW and Mr Amanuel Negassi for his leading role as the head of the Secretariat. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with the AEAS.
