DCG Mali participated at the International Development Forum in Bamako that took place from January 28th to 30th 2006. This third edition of the forum organized by the National Solidarity Fund (FSN) had, among others, the following objectives: present the fields of intervention of the different actors and institutions involved in the fight against poverty, scale up local technologies and services adapted to the needs of the communities, and debate on the notions and concepts of development.
Different speeches were given during this forum on the following subjects:
- The social development policies in Mali
- The spiritual and ethical dimensions of development policies
- Social sciences and international policies of social development: what are their impacts?
- The concept of "poverty perceived as a violation of human rights"
- “Jigui, sutura, maloya” (hope, sheltering of need, humility or shame): reach and limit of these notions in the understanding and management of poverty in Mali
- Integrated management of water resources: role and responsibility of the beneficiaries
There were also testimonies of experiences on these issues:
- Local knowledge and development: what is the link?
- The eco-developmental alternatives: small livestock breeding, case of the breeding of aulacodes (hedgehogs) in Benin
- Integrated management of water resources: the case of the region of Kayes.
During the forum, Mali held a stand and shared its experiences with regard to the fight against poverty especially through the following publication: “A Promising Practice: Integrated Plant Nutrition Management in Mali”.
DCG Mali’s banner had the following slogan: “Drylands Coordination Group in Mali: Fight against desertification and food security as sustainable solutions to the fight against poverty”.
DCG Mali’s stand, held by the DCG Mali coordinator, was among around 40 stands held by civil society organizations, governmental services and other development partners. The participants at the forum and the visitors discovered for the first time DCG Mali and were interested in our objectives and our work. Thus, in addition to the exchanges, several brochures on DCG and publications on the IPNM Promising Practice were distributed.
