From April 24th to 27th DCG held its networking seminar in Khartoum, Sudan with representatives from all its member countries, members of the DCG board and secretariat in Norway, as well as a researcher from Noragric. The objective of the seminar was to discuss DCG's future global strategy which will be used for 2007 to 2011. The seminar included several group works during which members tried to reach a common understanding of the main challenges in dryland areas, their causes and possible solutions. Based on presentations and further group work, participants at the seminar tried to identify entry points for DCG to address these challenges using different approaches such as action-research, policy studies and lobbying and advocacy work. Based on the discussions and conclusions from the seminar a new strategy will be drafted and sent out to DCG members for feedback. Once the strategy is finalized, national DCGs will have the task of developing annual activity plans within the framework of the new strategy. A report from the seminar will shortly be available for DCG members on the Intranet.
