A workshop will be organised from the 11th to the 13th of September by CAFO, a DCG member organisation in Mali. The objective of the workshop is to enable the member NGOs of DCG to efficiently participate in the implementation of the CCD by mastering the funding mechanisms of the programmes and projects of the UNCCD. The workshop will aim at:
- Enabling the NGOs to have general knowledge about the existing funding mechanisms in Mali and at the international level with regard to the implementation of the UNCCD
- Allowing the NGOs to master the funding mechanisms of the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environmental Fund (SGP/GEF) and of the GEF Medium Grants Programme so that they are able to ask for funds
- Making it possible for the DCG member NGOs to mobilise the maximum of funds in order to remarkably participate in the effective implementation of the CCD through advocacy/lobbying, training, sensitisation, communication, research, etc. activities.
- Strengthening the knowledge of the DCG member NGOs on the funding sources
- Elaborating a workshop report containing elements of the various presentations which will be done during the workshop, the operational guide of the Global Environmental Fund with the resource mobilisation strategy document and the project elaboration guide.
During the workshop, presentations will be made on funding mechanisms: conditions of access to funds, types of eligible projects, presentation of project document elaboration guides, or application forms.
The presentations will be followed by group-works and each group will work on the specific case of the elaboration guide of the SGP/GEF which is currently the only reliable mechanism for funding projects to combat desertification for sustainable development in Mali.
