Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been established to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is currently finalizing its Fourth Assessment Report "Climate Change 2007", also referred to as AR4. The reports by the three Working Groups provide a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the current state of knowledge on climate change. The Synthesis Report integrates the information around six topic areas. All these reports can be found on this webpage.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations works at an international level to fight hunger. It hosts a wealth of information including articles regarding dryland areas and a webpage dedicated to desertification.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)
The International Fund for Agriculture has the specific mission to alleviate rural poverty and fight hunger in developing countries including in dryland areas. IFAD is also host to the Global Mechanism for the Convention to Combat Desertification.

This portal, powered by IFAD, provides pages on rural poverty and desertification. It is an on-line gateway to information (documents and maps) on humanitarian emergencies and disasters. The website contains latest updates which are searchable, information on countries and emergencies categorized into different sectors, several sources of information such as publications on policy and different issues, maps, professional resources, etc.

The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC)
The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre is an information base for policy and action in order to conserve the environment. Several of its programs are relevant for dryland areas such as the protected areas program, the geographic information system (GIS) laboratory, and the species program.
