DCG facilitates mutual exchange of practical experiences between NGOs and research - and policy-making institutions. The DCG activities, which are carried out by DCG members in Eritrea , Ethiopia , Mali and Sudan , aim to contribute to improved food security of vulnerable households in the drylands of Africa.
The Norwegian DCG members consist of:
- ADRA Norway
- CARE Norway
- The Norwegian Church Aid
- The Norwegian People's Aid
- The Development Fund.
Noragric, the Department for International Environment and Development Studies at the University of Life Sciences (UMB) provides technical support to DCG. DCG’s activities are funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) whereas DCG's information work especially related to the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The overall goal of DCG is to contribute to improved food security for vulnerable households and communities in the drylands of Africa.
DCG intends to reach this goal by:
- Addressing core challenges related to the increased pressure on natural resources which leads to food insecurity in the drylands.
- Contributing to strengthening access to natural resources for vulnerable households and communities.
- Enhancing the capacity of member organisations, networks and other stakeholders to address the core challenges related to increased pressure on natural resources in the drylands.
